Apple iPhone dominates smart phone market
(31/08/2010 11:27:45)

Apple's iPhone has continued to remain one of the most successful models, even when RIM's Storm and LG's Arena have failed to meet market expectations. But only until the Palm Pre hits the streets with its unique design, featuring an exquisite touch screen and QWERTY keyboard. The Palm Pre's webOS is user friendly, and its ability to relate to social networking sites is unique. However, Apple came back rapidly with the introduction of the Apple iPhone 3GS which is two times faster than its second generation version.

This certainly ups the ante in the smart phone market. Featuring a 600MHz processor and 256MB RAM and 3MP auto focusing camera with a capacity of 32GB, the iPhone 3GS has the wherewithal to act as a mobile modem with voice control. Inspite of all this, aesthetically the iPhone remains the same.

Owing to unique features and excellent marketing effort, it appears that the Palm Pre has gained the edge and is being complemented by both the media and netizens as well. However, for Australians this is far from being a boon as the final release date is yet to be announced and the GSM version suitable for mobile networks has not yet become official. When it is likely to arrive in Q4 of 2009, Telstra is likely to have exclusive distribution rights for the first three months.

But, the iPhone 3GS from Apple is arriving first with companies eager to sell the product. Both marketing and stores availability are only likely to boost the overall impact. So, it's very likely that Apple will win the smartphone battle for now inspite of Palm Pre's eminence.
