BT is entering the mobile broadband services market with the launch of a pre-pay service for new and existing users. BT who has been offering mobile broadband on a limited basis is now extending its mobile broadband packages to household users, offering cheaper rates than ever.
All broadband users can access 8MB wireless broadband at home, and Vodafone users will be able to access 1GB for free.
Users will get BT’s latest USB modem E180 designed by Huawei, which offers HSDPA support that can be downloaded at up to 7.2bMbit/sec. The dongle is compatible only with Windows recommended PC’s, although Mac-OS will be released in the next few weeks.
Customers sign up for 18 months with a monthly usage of 1GB of data per month. The first 3 months will cost £9.99 for the modem and £18.59 per month. The cost of the dongle is £49.99 and £7.78 per month. Non-BT users can pay £129.99 for the dongle as a standalone prepaid option with an 18 month contract and 1 GB of data per month.
Along with 3G services, users also get BT FON membership where users can access the web at over 4 million Wi-Fi hotspots around UK and Ireland.
BT is £100 cheaper than Virgin and Orange and comes with fast speeds that should be more reliable than other network operators.
