Announcements in the industry indicate that downloading full-feature films to mobile phones is about to grow rapidly. This is logical given the growth of smartphones with improved features and increased memory. There are also people who are using their mobile phones to make short movies of their own.
But the most prolific area at the moment is movie downloads to mobile phones suggests Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Apple.
Sony Ericsson recently announced a new service called Play Now Arena Movies that will permit users to download up to five dozen movies a year to be watched on their smartphones. The movies will have to be downloaded to your PC first which reduces data charges associated with downloading to your handset. They are also launching three new entertainment specific phones that are compatible with the Play Now movie service. Sony Ericsson also plans for some phones to be preloaded with the Play Now Movie Service.
Samsung launched a Samsung Movies site back in March which also offers movie downloads to all its customers who own a phone that can play movies and have negotiated deals with all of the major motion studios to make feature films available for sale or rent.
Of course at the iTunes store you can already download movies to the iPhone and it is rumoured that Apple is soon to release a new version of the iPhone this summer that’s capable of direct movie downloads bypassing the need to use the iTunes store and syncing downloads with the device.;
