Recent research by Webcredible has revealed that online news is one of the most popular online activities for mobile web users.

The survey suggests that 13% of UK mobile web users access online news via their mobile phones with 4% looking up local news and travel information.

However, over 50% of respondents claimed to use email and visited social networking sites making them the two most popular mobile web activities.

Back in 2007 the most popular activity was downloading ringtones, which shows how the phone is now being used more as an alternative and an extension to the personal computer.

A Senior Consultant from Webcredible, Abid Warsi said, "These results clearly demonstrate the evolution of mobile internet usage in line with its increase in the ease with which mobile phone users can access the Internet."
