The numerous apps now available can actually help with household chores. There are, believe it or not some 35,000 in the Apple App Store alone, for devices such as the iPhones and iPod Touch, mainly software for games and tasks.
But the number and type of apps are increasing as phones get smarter.
US software makers have created several home-related apps for better homes and gardens, recipes, household budgeting and work lists. A torch is a fairly common one and you can of course check the weather daily with the weather app to ascertain whether you need your brolly (normally yes!).
But how about, for example, a ‘level’ app so you know whether that shelf is straight? Indeed, Dimensions, an app by software manufacturer PocketDemoWEB, is a toolbox with 13 tools including measuring tapes and a wheel that measures distances up to a mile. And with ColorChange by Indivigital you can take a photo with your phone and use the selection tool to change the colour of the wall, chairs or cushions. It then gives you RGB, CMYK references that can be directly translated to paint colours.
And the cost of these apps can be very reasonable, some are even free – ‘appy days!
