According to a survey of 1,100 AT&T mobile phone users, 57% of participants replied they play games on their mobile phone devices and half of the gamers admitted playing during work time. 40 percent said they do it to relieve stress.
The survey was conducted by the Information Solutions Group and PopCap Games. 60 percent of the respondents said they play games on their mobile phones at least once a month while 40 percent play weekly.
Gender has not impacted gaming habits much as 51 percent of men and 49 percent of women reportedly play mobile phone games. However, it’s observed that men play more frequently than women. It has become much easier to download and use mobile games with the advent of iPhone and its App Store.
According to a report from Gartner, the mobile gaming industry is expected to grow more than 10 percent per annum and consumer spending on gaming could reach 6.3 USD billion by 2011. 26 percent of respondents said they’d purchased only one piece of gaming software to date. On average, respondents purchased 7.2 games.
76 percent of respondents, who play mobile games frequently, said they play free mobile games, pre-installed on their mobile phones. 20 percent named Tetris as their most favourite and frequently played game, 18% named Bejeweled and 17% Solitaire.
