Motorola’s new Motosurf A3100 3G mobile phone may look a little feminine, but it’s well built with a strong plastic body and a resistive 2.8inch touchscreen Call quality is clear and it has a good level of volume. Text messages are also grouped into conversations, which makes it easier to follow the thread of the conversation. Contacts are well organised and easy to find.

The Motosurf has something they call Carousel making the interface easy to use without the stylus. Internet usage is also easy with Internet Explorer and there are applications for accessing YouTube, Facebook, Gmail and Google Maps.

The A3100 has Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G and GPRS and there’s a micro USB port to transfer data which also charges the phone.

From a music perspective it has Windows Media Player, which gives it a good solid sound through the headset. And the MotoID application identifies songs being played. Windows Media Player can also be used to play videos.

Camera-wise you’re looking at a 3-megapixel camera with LED flash and there are whole host of apps including the usual Office ones, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. There is also a PDF viewer.

The phone has 256MB of internal storage but this can be extended to 32 GB by using a Micro SD Card. With fairly standard use the phone charge should last around four to five days on a single charge.
