A recent ruling by the European Union is about to regulate that the cost of overseas phone calls which should see them decline by up to 60% over the next couple of years. So, whether you like being part of Europe or not, in this instance being part of the Union will definitely help all us roaming mobile phone users!
The first part of this will commence 1st July, with the average price of a text falling from 25p to just under 10p and a fairly major reduction in phone calls too. This is good news for holidaymakers.
Vodafone were the first to take action stating that they were to abolish roaming charges before the EU ruling was enforced. The next stage is to try and do something similar with the cost of Internet connections through your mobile phone, data transfer costs and other services.
It will be interesting to see how mobile operators try and recover this loss in revenue, so best beware of increases in other areas?
