mobile phone makers are growing their markets through an increase in sales of touch screen phones.
Samsung Electronics sold 10 million touchscreen phones last year and they’ve sold a similar number this year already, despite the recession. The company’s first such handset was the F490 launched in January ‘08.
Up to now Samsung’s top seller was the TouchWiz with around 6 million units, so there has been quite a marked rise. It is felt their strategy of launching smart phones with full-size touch screens has contributed to their success. They’re also due to launch an Amoled phone later this year which will see even further growth from Korea’s number one manufacturer.
LG Electronics, Koreas number 2 mobile manufacturer has also sold over 20 million phones having launched the world’s first full-size touch screen phone, the Prada, as far back as March 2007.
