Apple has created a new mobile advertisement platform for its iPhone by adding fresh software and multi-tasking features to the iPhone 3GS and the latest iPod Touch. Apple is now set to give tough competition to its nearest competitor Google in the mobile ads market.
After updating the iPhone with the latest OS 4.0, which enhances the multi tasking ability of the device, the new iAd will take Apple a step further by allowing iPhone app developers to create in-app advertising on its platform. The software will allow full-screen HTML5 video and interactive advertising content, available within an application and facilitate dynamic and wireless delivery of the adverts to the iPhone. The adverts are to be sold and distributed by Apple and 60% of their iAd revenue is likely to go to the developers.
The iPhone has created a new advertising category through the 185,000 apps, available to download from its store. According to Jobs, "These 185,000 apps don't exist on computers. This is a new phenomenon, this is the first time this kind of thing has ever existed. We never had that on the desktop, so search was the only way to find a lot of things". These features will be available on the iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G this summer.
