HTC has become one of the top potential buyers of the web operating system Palm, which is reportedly up for sale. Last week Palm made an official announcement about its availability for sale and anticipations are high that it has hired the Goldman Sachs Group Inc. to find buyers for the company.
HTC Chief Financial Officer, Cheng Hui-Ming clarified that the company will “continue to assess” the idea of building its own web operating system. According to him, “There are many factors to be considered rather than a simple decision to own or not to own proprietary software.”
By creating its own OS with the help of Palm’s innovative web OS platform, HTC is hoping to improve its current position as a key handset maker in the global smartphone market.
However, the company will continue to produce Google Android and Windows based mobile phones such as the HTC Legend and HTC Desire, as confirmed by sources. When the next web OS phones by HTC will arrive in the UK is still unknown.
