The growing popularity of apps for smartphone devices such as the iPhone can encourage consumers to sell an old mobile phone for cash to put towards a new mobile phone model. A report claims that developers have made $13,000 (£8,607) in a single month from self-developed applications for handsets with an Android operating system.
Dan Grabham, Deputy Editor of TechRadar said, "I expect to see growth in the development of applications but that is not just about the Nexus One. It's also about Android being available on many different phones from various manufacturers." He further added, "Part of the reason for the popularity of the iPhone is due to the range of applications that are available to download for the device and owners of other handsets could soon find more being made available to them."
Much of the craze for the iPhone is attributed to the device's capability that allows users to download and access the latest applications. What's notable here is that more of these applications can be accessed by customers using those mobile devices. Gartner reported that purchases of smartphones reached 172.4 million units, which was a 23.8 percent increase compared to the previous year.
