Sony Ericsson Profit Warning

"Our sales forecast for the first quarter (Q1) of 2009 will be 37 percent lower compared to sales for the same quarter last year" declared Sony Ericsson. As a result, the entire mobile phone industry in the UK braced itself for a drop in sales volume.

If sales fall in the first quarter of 2009 it will be only the 2nd time the industry will have recorded a fall in the past 15 years when sales volume fell by 3% in 2001. Analysts are predicting sales may drop down by around 15% and Sony Ericsson has predicted their sales volume will fall by 37 percent. However, Nokia's mobile division recorded an operating margin of 12.1% for Q4 2008.

Meanwhile the recently released Sony Ericsson W175 has been favourably reviewed by the surveys. The newly released version has A-GPS satellite location facilities.
