City workers are continuing to use their mobile phones for financial spread betting purposes, with Apple's iPhone proving particularly popular.
According to the City Index, around 15 per cent of all business is now conducted via an iPhone, with many people using an award-winning app to cater for their spread betting needs.
City Index launched the City Trading TM app for mobile phone users to complete their financial dealings 12 months ago.
This year, the application was honoured at the Money AM Online Finance Awards, as it was named the best mobile trading platform.
It is widely believed that people using the iPhone app have got the edge over their non-mobile phone using spread betting counterparts.
The app offers real-time market statistics for owners to analyse before making transactions using the device, with all of this being done while on the move.
Market strategist at City Index Joshua Raymond anticipates the use of mobile technology to become even more influential in the industry in years to come.
"I think [iPhone spread betting] is fantastic," he remarked.
"With many markets available to trade 24 hours a day, it is imperative that you can react with just a few clicks of a button. For me, the future of spread betting is mobile dealing."
Financial spread betting is not the only form of gambling that has taken off on mobile phone platforms.
Recently, Global Betting and Gaming Consultants chief executive Clive Hawkswood hailed the technological advances of the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad for their role in developing advances in online gambling.
Many web-based bookmakers have created apps for the gadgets, making it more convenient for customers to place bets and visit casinos.
"Tablet devices such as the iPad are providing the best features of PCs and mobiles, but exactly what will follow, I do not know at this time," he commented.
