Irish Autism Action is a national charity which is dedicated to providing a range of services to families affected by autism, as well as supporting 13 schools for children with autism across the country. The IAA has begun an appeal to collect as many old and unused mobile phones as possible to raise money for families whose lives have been affected by autism.
Autism is often a very misunderstood disability concerning the development of the brain, which in turn affects individual’s communication and social interaction skills. The mobile recycling appeal from the IAA has coincided with Autism Day, which is hoped will not only raise a lot of money but also raise awareness of the disorder.
This mobile phone appeal is also targeting primary schools, whereupon the IAA will be offering cash rewards for phones donated, or alternatively swapping the mobile phones for teaching equipment such as laptops or whiteboards.
The IAA has been working with families affected by Autism since 2001 Irish Autism Action and is a young vibrant, pioneering and passionate organisation which is striving to bring positive change into the lives of those affected by autism.
With the current economic climate, charitable organisations are becoming extremely concerned that generous donations from the public may very well dry up, so too will the government support that many non-profit organisations receive. Organisations such as the Irish Autism Action will have to have a plan B to fall back on, should the general public continue to feel the financial pinch.
More and more charitable organisations are joining the mobile phone recycling revolution, with so many people now having a backlog of old unwanted mobile phones, charities, NGO’s and local communities are tapping into the financial potential of these otherwise dormant pieces of tech.
Individuals can do their bit as well; we all have old unwanted handsets hanging around the house or office. Next time you’re having a browse online, have a quick glance at mobile phone recycling websites. These online mobile traders give you the opportunity to sell your old mobiles for cash, regardless of their physical condition. Growing numbers of people are using old mobile phones as a means to raise some extra cash; this money raised can then be donated to charities and are used to support great causes such as Irish Autism Action.
