If you’re one of those mad technophiles who simply must have the latest gadgets before you’re imaginary friends, and often find yourself charging the window of Dixons like a rutting stag, then here are few hints and tips for staying ahead of the game.
First thing you’ll need to do is to keep your peepers peeled and ears to terra firma. Subscribe to monthly gadget publications and especially online blogs, many of the contributors to these are techie insiders who have the lowdown on up and coming gadgetry. Buying and selling mobile phones and other gadgetry online has become big business in recent years, the internet is now where the latest tech is advertised - not a shop window.
Next tip, (maybe slightly more sinister) is to make friends with the staff at your local gadget emporium. Remember, there is a very fine line between enthusiasm and stalking, so avoid those pesky restraining orders and be subtle about it. These guys can preorder the latest technology for you or put the best-selling gear behind the counter before they all disappear off the shelves.
Thirdly, and perhaps the most extreme is to try and get some work for your favourite gadget company. One of the perks at working at Apple for example is the staff are treated to the latest Apple models before they hit the shops.
If you’re feeling lucky, then you could always enter the vast array of online competitions to win the latest tech – perhaps a touch optimistic, but Gadget companies often have their most coveted models up for grabs in these competitions. You can often find them in the back of gadget magz or gizmo websites.
Last but not least, if you want to get your mitts on the latest tech then you’ll need to immerse yourself in the gadget world. Do your homework and make some contacts, ring and email the relevant stores to make sure you have all the information there is to be had on up and coming releases.
