Twitter has introduced a new compilation of ‘top tweets’ which is emailed to your inbox so you can catch up on the best tweets of the week.
The popular micro-blogging website has traditionally steered clear of email drops; but has decided to introduce this weekly digest to give Tweeters an opportunity to review some of the most important 140-character announcements of the last 7 days.
Director of growth and international Othman Laraki, said: 'Starting today, you can discover the best of Twitter in a weekly email digest delivered to your inbox. This summary features the most relevant Tweets and stories shared by the people you’re connected to on Twitter.
'Stories feature a design similar to the recently updated Discover tab, emphasising who shared each story beneath summaries to help you decide which ones matter most to you.
Latest figures put Britain fourth in the list of the world’s top tweeters, with 10 million active users. The UK currently sits behind the US, Japan and Brazil. Recent figures show that UK tweeters are more likely to access the social networking site via their mobile phone, with 80% logging on through their smartphones compared to the global figure of 55%.
The UK’s mobile tweeting craze is being driven by the major mobile phone manufacturers selling mobile phones with deep social network integration. The majority of modern smartphones will have Twitter or Facebook woven into the fabric of their operating systems; meaning access and updates are instantaneous and beamed straight through to your home screen.
Social networking through our mobile phones is, for many, the most logical platform for these services as our mobile phones are already the focal point around which our social circles form.
