Sell your mobile phone for cash

Selling you old mobile phone could reap great rewards. With network providers offering phone upgrades there’s an estimated 80 million old ones out there lying around in people’s homes that could earn up to £150, depending upon model and condition.

Web-based companies such as Fonebank will take and recycle your old mobile phone (so it’s good for the environment) and give you cash in return. Simply go to their websites, tell them what the make and model is and they'll tell you the price you’ll get. Send them the phone in a jiffy bag and in a jiffy you’ll get a cheque (usually 3 days from them receiving the phone. And they pay much more than the ‘trade-in’ discount you’re likely to get from high street retailers.

Your phone does however need to be in good condition with nothing more than superficial damage and with a battery so that it can be switched on. It may be worth looking at whether you can get your old phone working to get a decent price e.g. replace the battery. By the way they’re not interested in the charger so don’t worry about that.

Send the phone charged, switched off, without the Sim or memory card, removing any security or pin codes and wiping off any private data.

If your phone’s damaged they may well give you a reduced price and something’s better than nothing! Send it in and they’ll let you know what it’s worth.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what happens to the phones they’re shipped overseas, sold again and re-used. If your phone can’t be re-used it gets broken down and the parts are sold and re-used – so a great way of helping the environment through recycling.

There are of course other options to cash in your phone like selling it to a friend or giving it to charity but recycling has got to be the best option when you think of all the unwanted phones out there, and if you want to give the proceeds to Charity Fonebank can do this too.

Hands on with the new Nokia E75 mobile phone

The latest addition to the Eseries range, the Nokia E75 was announced at MWC earlier in the year. It has a full sized QWERTY keyboard, a great list of connectivity options, a pretty good 3.2 megapixel camera and good multimedia features (including a 3.5mm audio jack). The comprehensive software package includes improved messaging, as well as improved Eseries versions of Calendar and Contacts.

Eseries mobile phones have mainly appealed to business customers although recently this has widened resulting in increased sales within a highly competitive market. The E75 is well placed as the QWERTY keyboard seems to be in at the moment and it has some hardware enhancements that are particularly user-friendly.

The E75 also has the clever 'Switch' software, which allows users to switch between two different screens - one for personal and one for business use. This duality has been extended into the hardware with one part standard 12-key phone and one part QWERTY messenger.

According to Valtteri Eroma, head of Eseries Design “the E75 uses the side slider to bring the benefits of a communicator with the attributes of a phone with its primary use being as a clever smartphone, and its secondary use as a messaging communicator”.

The price is some £379 so is at the more expensive end of Nokia's portfolio. It doesn't offer the value of some of Nokia's S60 products, but it’s full of features and feels and looks professional.

If you’re a real Communicator fan then you might not view it as being in the same league but for many users it will have all the functionality that’s required. The E75 should possibly be considered as a new version of the E70 and the Communicator family but is also similar in spec to the lower priced Nokia E71, although different in form due to the QWERTY keyboard. It also has many technical improvements over the E71, namely an improved multimedia support and an upgraded version of S60, which gives better overall performance. However, these factors will be offset by the appearance of future Eseries offerings – an upgraded E71 is likely quite soon and the E51 upgrade has already been announced in the guise of the E52. The real appeal of the E75 is definitely its dual nature - a phone like the E51 and a messaging optimised device like the E71.

If you’re thinking about buying one of these new models and want to sell your old mobile phone then try Fonebank? With Fonebank you can sell your old mobile phone for cash - you’ll get a good price and as it’s being recycled so it’s good for the environment too.
